What To Do With Your Old Tech

Holidays are over. Leftovers are in the fridge waiting to eat. The decor has been lowered and saved for next year. And all the new technology gifts you receive up and running. But what do you do with a device that you don't use anymore? Here are three ways to get rid of your device that is not used.

1. Sell it

As long as your old device is still functioning and in good condition, you can sell it easily. Sites like Craigslist, eBay, and Facebook Marketplace allow you to sell your device directly to others.

If you don't want to deal with the hassle of finding yourself, you can sell your old device to a company like Gazelle. Gazelle buys and sells used electronic devices. Their online assessment will calculate offers for your device. Free shipping and you can choose to be paid through checks, paypal, or amazon gift cards.

2. Donate.

If you are not interested in selling your device, you might want to consider contributing it. Donatettechnology.com helps you find a non-profit organization in your area that requires equipment. You can also choose to provide your old technology to a local used goods store.

Note: There may be special requirements to contribute technology. If your device is too old or not in pretty good condition, the organization may not be able to accept it.

3. Recycle ...

Best Buy, Staples, and Office Max / Office Depot have a recycling program for old technology. They recycle most of the items for free, but there are some restrictions about what they will receive. For larger items, such as TV or kitchen utensils, some stores even offer to take it from your home (the cost may apply).

Before selling, contributing, or recycling your old device, you must transfer all files, photos, and personal information to your new device. Be sure to delete all data from the device after the transfer is complete. If you need help with this process, don't hesitate to call or chat with one of our friendly technological advisors.
