More than a decade ago, the first real smartphone crashed into the market and made an important element screen from our lives. As a result, it has changed the way we communicate, work, travel, buy, and more.
Today, one-third of American households have three or more smartphones, according to the Pew Research Center, while 23% have three or more desktops and 17% have three tablets or more. We continue to be surrounded by screens. It's almost impossible to escape from them.
The first validation of the use of consumer augmented reality technology comes from the Pokémon Pokémon application which is popularly explosively. Previously, no one thought of an AR experience or application on a smartphone. This unexpected cellphone use has succeeded in validating consumer mass adoption from Augmented Reality.
Due to the initial launch of Pokémon Go in 2016, the implementation of a new smartphone was launched. While companies such as Snapchat and Facebook have found entertaining ways to provide an AR experience about the social media platform, retailers have developed AR applications to help customers with online purchasing decisions. For example, the IKEA application gives consumers the ability to visualize furniture in their own homes, only by holding their smartphones in the room or area. This helps reduce the part of the fear of consumer experiences when shopping online for large items, such as furniture. This provides additional comfort.
Smartphones, coupled with headsets, have become the most common use to provide VR experiences for several years now. This has become the most accessible entry point for VR consumer use. Virtual reality is much more mature than the existing augmented reality market. The necessary software tools and hardware platforms to make a deep VR experience are available. With the availability of a more advanced system such as Rift Oculus, coupled with 360 cameras, the experience of virtual reality quickly found a new way into our lives.
Virtual reality shows several cases of effective industrial use as well, from real estate applications to tourism. On a recent trip to Israel, I watched the Jerusalem visitor bureau using VR to immerse tourists in how the city looked 5,000 years ago. This type of innovative VR experience is launched in the industry throughout the world.
Although the augmented reality technology is less adulthood than virtual reality due to the limitations of AR technology, the lack of standardization, and higher price labels, it has been used in the industry including manufacturing, health, and logistics services. Augmented reality experience is usually sent through a headset, such as Meta, ODG, Vuzix, and Hololens, and shows the initial signs that the technology is set to change the commercial and industrial markets. However, there is still a job that must be done before this technology can achieve mainstream adoption.
